FRP Polyester Pigment is Samrat Poly Resins' colour paste for FRP products made with unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester and gelcoat systems. It is not a structural resin, glass-fibre reinforcement or a gelcoat in its own right; it is the colour component blended into the separately selected resin or gelcoat. At the published 2–5% recommended dosage before catalysing, its high tinting strength (≥95%) provides colour at a controlled addition level. The TDS lists heat resistance up to 180°C and 7–8 Blue Wool Scale light fastness for the pigment itself; finished-part weathering still depends on the surrounding resin or gelcoat system. Supplied as a paste in 1 kg bottles with a 100 kg minimum order quantity, it is available in standard and custom colours, including RAL and Pantone matches.

FRP Polyester Pigment is stirred thoroughly into GP Clear Resin, GP Yellow Resin or a Gelcoat Resin before catalysing with an MEKP hardener — mixing pigment in after catalysing risks uneven colour as working time runs out. It is also compatible with Vinyl Ester Resin binder systems. For a pre-pigmented, factory-coloured sheet resin instead of adding pigment yourself, see our Sheet Grade Yellow Resin.

What is FRP Polyester Pigment / Polyester Pigment Paste?

FRP Polyester Pigment is a colour concentrate paste for an FRP resin or gelcoat system. It supplies colour to the selected base material; it is not the structural resin that binds reinforcement, the glass-fibre reinforcement itself or the mould-side gelcoat layer that creates the finished surface.

The published product data lists compatibility with unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester and gelcoat systems. The TDS lists standard and custom colours, including RAL and Pantone matching. Confirm the required colour and the actual base system before ordering.

Key features

  • Blends seamlessly with unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester and gelcoat systems
  • High tinting strength (≥95%) delivers full colour at a low 2–5% dosage
  • Withstands exothermic curing heat, rated up to 180°C
  • 7–8 Blue Wool Scale light-fastness for the pigment's own colour retention
  • Available in RAL and Pantone custom matches
  • Supplied in 1 kg bottles, minimum order 100 kg

Applications

  • FRP tanks and pipes
  • Gel coats for boats and automotive parts
  • Decorative and architectural panels
  • Electrical enclosures

What this means for FRP colour-system buyers

Start with the visible colour requirement

Use the required colour or RAL/Pantone reference as an enquiry input, together with whether the pigment is intended for a resin or a gelcoat system. Colour, surface finish and the structural laminate are separate decisions.

Match the paste to the published base system

The TDS lists unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester and gelcoat compatibility. Confirm the actual product system rather than assuming that every resin, gelcoat or reinforcement product has the same role.

Procurement details are published

Review the pigment TDS, 1 kg bottle packaging and 100 kg minimum order quantity before sharing colour, application, resin or gelcoat system, quantity and delivery location for a quote.

Choose the pigment within the FRP material system

The published pigment applications cover FRP tanks and pipes, boat and automotive gelcoats, decorative or architectural panels, electrical enclosures and moulded components. These define the visible-colour context; they do not turn pigment paste into a substitute for the resin, gelcoat or reinforcement selected for the part.

Follow the colour-solution route: start with the pigment-paste guide and published application context; review compatibility; then compare pigment paste with Gelcoat or a pre-pigmented resin before using the TDS and requesting a quotation. For related material selection, review the separate roles of Unsaturated Polyester Resin, GP Clear Resin, GP White Resin, Gelcoat Resin and Glass Fiber in the FRP Polyester Pigment Knowledge Hub.

Frequently asked questions

FRP Polyester Pigment is a colorant paste for FRP products made with unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester or gelcoat systems, providing consistent colour without acting as a structural or surface-coating material in its own right — it is blended into whichever resin or gelcoat is already being used.

It is formulated for compatibility with unsaturated polyester (UPR) and vinyl ester resin binder systems, as well as gelcoat systems such as our GP Gelcoat Resin — including our GP Clear Resin and GP Yellow Resin general-purpose grades.

2–5% by weight is the recommended dosage, with its high tinting strength (≥95%) delivering full colour at the lower end of that range for most shades. Adding more than necessary isn't recommended, since heavier pigment loading can begin to affect the cured laminate's mechanical properties.

Within the recommended 2–5% dosage range, no — it blends seamlessly without affecting cure or the final laminate's mechanical properties. Loading significantly above that range isn't recommended, as heavier pigment content can begin to affect mechanical performance.

Yes. It is available in a wide range of standard and custom colours, including RAL and Pantone matches.

The pigment itself carries a 7–8 rating on the Blue Wool Scale, a strong result for outdoor-use colourants, meaning the colour itself resists fading well. The overall weathering of a finished FRP part also depends on the UV stability of the surrounding resin or gelcoat, which is a separate property from the pigment's own light-fastness.

Not on its own. Pigment colour retention and a laminate's overall weather resistance are two different properties — a light-fast pigment can still be surrounded by a resin or gelcoat that yellows or chalks under prolonged UV exposure. For parts needing confirmed long-term outdoor performance, the resin or gelcoat's own UV stability matters as much as the pigment's.

It is supplied in 1 kg bottles, with a minimum order quantity of 100 kg.

It is stirred thoroughly into the resin or gelcoat first, before adding an MEKP hardener and accelerator — mixing pigment in after catalysing risks uneven colour as working time runs out.

Share the required colour or RAL/Pantone reference if known, the FRP application, intended resin or gelcoat system, quantity, industry and delivery location. The actual colour and system requirement should be confirmed before ordering.
