Why GP Yellow Resin is suitable
GP Yellow Resin uses the same general-purpose orthophthalic chemistry and MEKP plus cobalt octoate cure system as our GP Clear Resin, so it wets out chopped strand mat and woven roving in the same way during hand lay-up. Its main practical difference is a thicker body (450–600 cPs against GP Clear Resin's 350–450 cPs) and a slower 10–15 minute gel time, which gives fabricators a longer open working window when rolling out reinforcement across a large tank panel — a genuine trade-off against GP Clear Resin's faster production cycle, not an improvement on it. Because the structural laminate inside a tank wall is rarely the visible surface once a tank is finished and installed, GP Yellow Resin's transparent yellow tint carries no functional downside here, making it a workable, same-purpose alternative wherever a fabricator prefers its slower-gelling grade.

Manufacturing process
Tank panels or shells are built up by hand lay-up: chopped strand mat, often combined with woven roving for added strength, is placed against the mould, then GP Yellow Resin — catalysed with an MEKP hardener and cobalt octoate accelerator — is worked into the reinforcement by roller or brush. Its slower gel time gives fabricators extra time to work resin into each layer before moving to the next, and multiple layers are built up to the specified wall thickness. Once the laminate has fully cured at room temperature, the panel or shell is released from the mould, trimmed, and — for sectional tanks — bolted together with the other panels on site to form the complete tank.

For tanks intended to hold potable water, always confirm the complete construction — including any food-grade gelcoat or lining on the water-contact surface — meets the relevant drinking-water standards for your project; the resin's own colour does not affect this requirement.
There is no performance advantage — both are general-purpose orthophthalic resins with the same MEKP/cobalt cure. GP Yellow Resin is simply a thicker, slower-gelling grade with a transparent yellow tint rather than being colourless. Since a tank's structural laminate is rarely the visible surface once the tank is finished, some fabricators use GP Yellow Resin where its longer working time suits larger panel lay-ups, or as an alternative supply option to GP Clear Resin.
GP Yellow Resin is a general-purpose orthophthalic resin intended for standard water storage. For tanks holding aggressive chemicals or requiring higher corrosion resistance, a Vinyl Ester Resin system is the more suitable choice.
