Different decisions in one FRP product
Gelcoat Resin and Vinyl Ester Resin are not interchangeable names for the same product. A gelcoat is selected for the mould-facing surface and finish of an FRP part. Vinyl Ester Resin is considered where the laminate or lining has a service requirement that needs its separate chemical-resistance positioning.
A buyer should therefore separate two questions: what visible surface is required, and what will the finished component face in service? The answer to one does not automatically settle the other.
When to review GP Gelcoat Resin
Review GP Gelcoat Resin where the requirement is a white, high-gloss polyester surface coating for the mould face of an FRP product. Its published product data describes a surface-coating gelcoat with thixotropic behaviour for mould-facing application. Confirm the specific TDS, colour requirement and application method before production.
When to review Vinyl Ester Resin
Review Vinyl Ester Resin when the finished laminate, lining or service environment may need the product's chemical-resistance positioning. Chemical, concentration, temperature, exposure duration and construction details can change the selection. A broad material category is not a substitute for checking the actual application against the product data.
A practical enquiry checklist
Describe the FRP component, the visible-finish requirement, the laminate construction or reinforcement, the intended exposure, process, quantity and delivery location. This keeps a surface-finish discussion distinct from a chemical-service discussion and gives the supplier the facts needed for a useful technical conversation.
