One product role, several buyer terms
Industrial buyers may search for MEKP Hardener, MEKP Catalyst, MEKP Initiator, polyester resin hardener or FRP hardener. On this site, these terms describe MEKP's published catalyst / initiator role in selected unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester and gelcoat systems.
MEKP is not a structural resin, Glass Fiber reinforcement, a mould-side gelcoat or a colour paste. Start by identifying the complete material-system requirement rather than treating a generic "hardener" request as enough product information.
Why the base resin still comes first
The current MEKP data sheet publishes system context for unsaturated polyester resins, vinyl ester resins and gelcoats. The individual product page and TDS for the chosen resin remain the relevant references for that product role.
Unsaturated Polyester Resin is a category, while GP Clear, GP White, GP Yellow and Lamination Resin are separate published product routes. The first buyer question is which resin role matches the component, not simply whether an MEKP hardener is required. Review the actual component, base resin grade and intended manufacturing context before requesting an MEKP quotation. This guide does not provide dosage, mixing, cure adjustment or handling instructions.
Keeping the FRP material roles separate
The resin supplies the matrix role. Glass Fiber is the separate reinforcement material. Gelcoat is the separately selected mould-side surface product, and FRP Polyester Pigment is a separate colour component. A complete requirement identifies each role rather than treating them as one generic FRP material.
Use the relevant product page and current TDS to define the base material, then discuss MEKP as the separate catalyst / initiator component in that documented system. Do not transfer process settings from one resin grade to another.
MEKP in gelcoat systems
GP Gelcoat Resin is published as a mould-side polyester surface-coating product. MEKP Hardener is the separate catalyst / initiator component named in the current compatible-system context. They should not be compared as substitute products.
Begin with the required component and visible surface role, then review the specific gelcoat product data before including MEKP in a system enquiry.
