Buyer question

A common FRP purchasing question is whether a clear GP grade or a yellow GP grade is the better fit for a routine manufacturing line. These are related general-purpose polyester resin grades, but they are not interchangeable without checking what the part, process and appearance requirement actually demand.

Quick answer

Start with the role of resin colour in the process. GP Clear Resin is the clear general-purpose grade; GP Yellow Resin is supplied transparent yellow. Then compare the published processing data: GP Clear Resin has a lower published viscosity range and a shorter published gel time than the GP Yellow grade.

Neither option is automatically better. The appropriate choice depends on whether the resin colour will matter, the reinforcement and moulding workflow, and the working window needed by the production team.

When to choose each grade

Consider GP Clear Resin

Consider the clear grade when a colourless resin is relevant to the application and the published 350-450 cPs viscosity with gel time under 8 minutes aligns with the planned workflow. A clear supplied resin does not by itself establish the final appearance of a reinforced, pigmented or surface-finished part. Confirm fit against the product TDS before ordering.

Consider GP Yellow Resin

Consider the transparent-yellow grade when its supplied colour is acceptable in the process or build-up and its published 450-600 cPs viscosity at 25 C and 10-15 minute gel time suit the line. The supplied resin colour is not, on its own, a claim about the finished reinforced part. Check its product page for the applicable details.

When not to force either choice

If the job has a specific chemical-resistance, fire-performance, surface-coating or speciality bonding requirement, compare a purpose-specific grade instead of assuming either GP resin is suitable.

Details to share before requesting a quote

Share the finished part, manufacturing process, expected quantity, required appearance, existing grade if any, and delivery location. This gives the supplier enough context to direct the enquiry to the relevant product data and grade discussion.
