Treat the visible result as a signal

Surface variation, incomplete wet-out, a tacky result, air-related marks, a separation concern or timing variation can all be treated as process signals. A visible result alone does not identify a root cause, prove that a material is at fault or establish that one universal corrective action is appropriate.

Record the lamination concern precisely

For air-related marks or incomplete wet-out

Record the reinforcement, lay-up sequence, substrate or mould, working conditions, timing and the location of the observed result. This creates a useful starting record without assuming the issue has one cause.

For a bonding or delamination concern

Record the component, substrate preparation, reinforcement, build-up sequence, cure history, service context and photographs. A visible separation alone is not enough to establish why it occurred.

For tackiness or cure-timing variation

Record the product and batch, storage history, ambient conditions, documented timing and all approved process inputs. Compare the record with the exact TDS rather than changing catalyst or accelerator inputs by guesswork.

Build a useful troubleshooting record

Before changing the process, record the product name and batch, the component, substrate or reinforcement, process sequence, ambient conditions, storage history, timing and photographs. Compare these details with the applicable product TDS and the normal line conditions.

Keep changes controlled

Do not add chemicals or change catalyst or accelerator inputs by guesswork. The cure system and safe handling requirements are product-specific. A controlled discussion based on the product data and the actual process is more useful than a generic fix.

When to contact the supplier

Contact the supplier when the documented process differs from the normal result, a batch or storage concern needs review, or the finished-component requirement is unclear. Include the records above so the application can be discussed without unsupported assumptions.
