Manufacturing process
Silicone moulds are usually used as-is, though a light mould-release spray can help with detailed or rigid moulds. Epoxy Clear Casting Resin is mixed 2:1 by weight with Epoxy Hardener, stirred thoroughly, and poured slowly from a slight height into the mould rather than dumped in, which reduces the air introduced during pouring itself. For pieces embedding flowers, mica or small objects, a thin base layer is often poured and left to gel slightly before the object is placed and a second pour covers it, holding the object in position rather than letting it float. Surface bubbles are released with a heat gun or small torch passed briefly over the pour; some makers pour in small increments — a little resin, check for bubbles, torch, then continue — rather than filling the mould in one go, particularly for detailed or multi-layer pieces. Once cured, pieces are demoulded, and any mould-line seams are wet-sanded and buffed back to a high-gloss finish.
