A specialist product role within the UPR family

Unsaturated Polyester Resin is the broader family. Samrat's Fire Retardant Resin is a published specialist halogenated unsaturated polyester grade within that broader family, intended for an industrial FRP discussion where fire-performance criteria are stated.

This does not make FR Resin unrelated to polyester resin, and it does not make every polyester resin an FR grade. Product names, technical data and the finished-component requirement must stay connected.

What the current product data actually identifies

SPR-TDS-FRR Rev. 01 identifies a white liquid resin with 400 cPs viscosity, 5.5-minute gel time, 35% styrene content, three-month shelf life, 30–35 °C storage, 35 kg / 225 kg packaging and a 500 kg MOQ. These are current product-data points for the listed grade.

The TDS contains a manufacturer-published fire-performance statement with a note that its test-report or certification reference is to be supplied and confirmed. This guide therefore does not turn that statement into a verified rating or finished-system approval.

Fire retardant does not mean fireproof

"Fire Retardant Resin" identifies a specialist product route. It does not mean the resin is fireproof, non-combustible, or automatically approved for a particular project. No such claim is made for this product.

The resin is one material in a finished FRP system. Reinforcement, construction, thickness, surface system and the documented or tested configuration may all be relevant to a required result. A buyer should not copy a generic product statement into a drawing, tender or compliance declaration — retain the original requirement and confirm the appropriate documentation for the actual component.

When FR is the wrong answer and GP is the right one

GP products are published for broad general-purpose FRP work. Fire Retardant Resin is the specialist route to review when fire-performance criteria are part of the stated requirement. Neither description confirms a result for a finished FRP part.

A buyer may see both products in the polyester-resin family and assume that FR Resin is a universal upgrade. That is not the right decision framework — a specialist FR product is not automatically the correct route for ordinary general FRP work, and selecting it without a documented need adds cost for no stated benefit. Equally, where a project does have a stated fire-performance requirement, do not substitute a GP grade from a product name alone.

Defining the fire-performance requirement

Keep the original project wording intact. Establish whether it refers to a liquid resin, a cured resin, a laminate or a finished FRP component, and whether a particular documented or tested configuration is required. That distinction prevents a general material description from being copied into a project declaration without the context the requirement needs.

A finished FRP result can depend on the resin system, reinforcement, construction, thickness, surface system and the relevant documented or tested configuration. This guide does not provide a design recipe or a fire-test result, and the repository does not include a supporting fire-test report or certificate for a finished FRP system.

What to ask before ordering

Ask which exact standard, classification or document the project requires, whether it applies to the resin or a completed FRP part, and whether the finished system must be tested or documented in a defined configuration.

Share the exact requirement, finished component, application, relevant reinforcement context, quantity, packaging need and delivery location. Ask what documentation is available for the specific requirement rather than asking a product name to stand in for a project classification.
